Bob, I take more abuse than you would believe over my .22 by anybody that rides with me. It's a P.O.S.
Just tell 'em what I do...I'm runnin' a trapline here, not a fkn gunshow....you wanna see a nice gun go to the fkn gunshow!
Rick.

"Even put down a quarter horse w/ my 22mag. Had to, broke leg.. Sad really.." ----------------------------- My horse fell and broke a leg yesterday also. Hurt like anything! I should know because it was MY leg he broke. Hey, I saw some .22 mag ammo advertised that had a 50 grain bullet in there. That seems like it should be some serious rimfire fodder.

I have a 22mag marlin micro groove barrel. i shoot the CCI maxi-Mag through it. Best shooting round for my gun. I have had several different 22 mags, and each one shot different rounds differently. the main thing I found over the years is find what your gun shoots best. i like the jacketed hollow point for hunting. I had one yote get away, 100 yards and hit it in the boiler room, ran over 300 yards to its den, I am sure I killed it, but it got away. I have shot cats with it out to 100 yards and no problem. Yotes, I wont shoot over 75 out, that is the farthest I would push a shot with my gun. I took a chance on the 100 yard shot and lost it, just a waste in my opinion. I have shot coons with it and never had a large exit hole, yet. Coon in a tree and one shot kills and 22 hole in, 22 hole out.
Good luck with it, mine is one of my favorite guns. Oh and splitting squirrels with it can be fun too ;D

"my gun did everything I wanted in Ks" What was "everything you wanted"? My neighbor in Mo. used a Marlin in 22 mag his first season for deer. He took a nice buck and two does. He selected the 22 mag because at a hunting seminar a DOW officer stated that more deer were taken with 22 mags in Mo than any other caliber. The officer was, of course, referring to poaching from vehicles at night. A fact that was lost on my neighbor. He could not understand why he could no longer use his rimfire, which was considered inadequate, when he had made three one shot kills.

Bob, I recently bought a Marlin .22 mag with synthetic stock and the microgroove barrel. I like it so far. Which one did you get?

Did you shoot called coyotes? If so at what ranges and what results?

rich, just pot shotters and trapped stuff. killed stuff dead that I had problems with using the regular .22. and no fur damage, tiny holes. some at fair range. it`s pretty common to jump coyotes when out running the pastures, and of course they always stop for the look back , for 2 seconds, when they crest the last hill. if you are set up and ready you can get that sweet shot. it`s the cheapest one I could find as it is about ruined with dust and crud already. just perfect for me
