I been eyeballing an AR in 223;dont know much about them but this one started at about 1700$,but the guy didnt pick it up so I'd just have to pay the balance(about a grand). In adc work I can see the utility of semi-auto and large cap mags, but I'm really a bolt guy. I'm sure the kids would love it and its cheaper to feed than the 22-250.....but still,I dont know.
So lets hear what you have to say about the 15.

Ask Jim Zumbo!! hehehe
Poor Jim. He didnt know what hit him.
I get to see alot of different rifles that clients pack along and many seem to prefer the AR type auto's. There was a time when I packed only a Rem 742 in 243 for all my calling. The funny thing was it was rare for me to take more than one shot anyway, so, as you know Edge, I now mostly carry a single shot or a bolt gun. Nothing against the Auto's if that is your choice. Very good guns.
P.S. Made it home OK with the new truck. Sure hated driving by and not seeing you. Hope your meeting went well. Which side of the highway do you live on?

I really only get multiples at mating and in the early summer;for fur I doubt I'd ever quit the bolt guns.
I'm on the east side, really only 10 or so miles off the freeway.Meeting up would have been nice;hopefully I can catch up when I head to AZ.

If this makes me seem narrow minded, I apologize.
I put a lot of stock in what a man carries while hunting predators. Just about anything is okay with me, bolt guns, encores, pumps, autos (self loading) like a Remington or Browning....but man, I don't like to hunt with somebody that needs an "assault rifle" with a thirty round magazine. There are a few exceptions and applications, I just mean; generally speaking.
Yeah, I tried it. Not impressed, I don't think it's seen the light of day in over ten years? Makes a half way decent home defense weapon if you don't have a shotgun.
Okay, start throwing rocks, I deserve it, I'm an opinionated sob.
Good hunting. LB

What brand and configuration for 1g why is the guy giving you that 700 break when he can sell it to the next guy for full price?

I am an old fashioned SOB too. Kind of like Leonard, but I ain't rich like him. Diesel pickups are for those who wish they were truck drivers, and AR-15's are for guys who wish they were soldiers.

Ahh come on Rich. I love my diesel pickup, and I never wanted to be a truck driver! hehe
I just need it because of all the miles I put on one each year down here where it is 50 to over a 100 miles between towns.

All well and good Steve but when that clatterty bang engine breaks down, you may have to borrow a small fortune from our friend Leonard just for the repair work.

lb,You and I are on the same page, along with richc;although I have a deisel truck and no inkling whatsoever to be a truck driver,LOL! Havent really decided one way or the other on the AR,gonna go back thru my calling log and see if there are as many multiples as I remember.....
**What brand and configuration for 1g why is the guy giving you that 700 break when he can sell it to the next guy for full price? **
He *can* sell it for full price, full price is on the tag,but I buy all my gear there so he offered me the price break.
I'm not sure of the particulars on the gun,I'll try to find out details.

You want to know what the upper is A2 with the Picatiny Rails, barrel what tiwst and is it chromed lined or match. Is there a trigger job or trigger swap.
The AR15 is a very highly accurate rifle, with the right barrel and a trigger job. I have a guy that works over the trigger group using drill rods. Simple 100 fix.
The first mis conception is the 30 round mag. From all the P dog shooting I have done with an AR those 30 rounders jam, if you were to go out to Malta MT I know a spot where there's about 75-100 spread out over dog towns.
There great for a follow up shot you just have to get used to the spring sound in your ear.

Okay, I was exaggerating about the thirty round mag, and in some states they restrict the capacity to five. But, you can do that with a (non black gun) traditional sporting arm like a 7600 Remington. I think the quick follow up argument is a little overrated. I have managed to kill several animals responding in a group, with a bolt gun and I'm no expert, and definately not rich. That Cronk guy is Rich, not me.

There(they're ;D) great for a follow up shot you just have to get used to the spring sound in your ear. i use RIG grease on the spring in the stock. squeeze it in like you're pizzed off at it and smear it around a lil with a finger or 2. it'll take the slamming screen door effect down to zero. nothing like a jewell trigger to kick that bushy up a notch or 3

I think an AR is a fine piece of machinery. When souped up they are accurate, quick handling, reliable and offer quick follow up shots. To me they look like a machine and I prefer the more traditional look of a bolt gun. I think it would be fun to own one but I doubt it would ever make it to a stand. Would it be a disadvantage to be limited to a .223? I think the repeatability is overrated as an advantage over a bolt gun. Maybe if I spent a couple years hunting with one I would feel differently. It would be a tough sell. There is really no valid argument against its ability to be used as a fine hunting weapon. Boils down to personal taste. IMO

Yes, personal taste is what it is. I don't like them for hunting predators. Especially ridiculous, at night, hunting from a rig.
My personal opinion, and I don't mind sharing it....and, BTW, they are ugly. LB

What is the difference in a Bolt or Auto. If the AR is scoped up right there good for 500 yards easy. They have taken over the DCM match's due to no recoil. You get on a den this time of year there's no mercy if you do your part with the call. Let the fireworks start and an AR15 Varmint is sheer pleasure to shoot.
They can be setup in 17 rem also, if you get an AR10 22-250 is a smoker also.
Why bother with one of those Remingtons 7600 these guns can shoot sub minute groups. To me there art work others there an eye sore.
