Ok I have never even considered the stuff before. And quite frankly I cringe thinking a bout it. THat being said, my trap barrel was destroyed last winter. Time is short and I need to get them done. Mostly I trap coon an beaver. I will never be sold on using a gas dipped trap for a K9. I have around 200 foot traps for coon and 50 or so beaver sized traps that need done my coins were done before my buddy ran into my barrel. Whats your opinion on the stuff and what would I need to do this amount of traps.

speed dip works ok on water traps- I still occasionally speed dip mine- or F-1
I've tried both on canines, and went back to dye/wax.

Go out and buy some cheap latex paint. Mix one gallon of paint with 2 gallons of water and your good to go. Traps will be dry In a few hours and be good to go. New traps need to have any oil removed. Old traps just knock off the big chunks and dip, shake and hang to dry. Farm and Fleet sells a latex brown barn and fence paint works good.

I've used Beav's technique in years past when it became crunch time. Nice thing about this method is a year later these traps will have accrued some surface rust, and can then be dyed in the barrel like you usually do.

In my opinion speed dip sucks for K9 traps, but works very well for water traps....B...

I just set the coon traps out of the box, grease and all. They get a little "patina" on them after a few years but the coon shine them up like new again.

Speed dip is my product of choice for water equipment.
Dry land gear all gets boiled and waxed.

I'm a speed dipper too, but for water traps only. I personally think it's worth using Coleman gas for the dipping though. I just dipped some yesterday afternoon and in about 2 hours they weren't even tacky anymore.

Yes, Coleman gas is the only way to go with Speed Dip.

I've used Speed Dip for a couple of yrs for water sets. Don't know how or why but some traps come out shiny and some come out dull? I think it must have to do with the mixture i use. As I get low in the bucket I guestimate the amount of each (coleman fuel and Speed Dip) to add even though I try to keep the ratio close........... ? I guess the question is do I like it? Yes! It dries fast and I can't smell any residual fuel. I do like the sound of Beav's suggestion with the latex paint though.

Latex has an odor too I'm sure a coyote can smell, the thing is does it make him avoid the set? If so even 1 out of 10 or 15 I won't use it. Also latex isn't very tough, easy to scratch off.
Dye and wax all land traps.

Speed dip with gas and a month or so airing is fine for coons. Never tried Coleman fuel but I've heard enough that if time was short, I'd use it. I use F-1 for coyotes. Dip one day, set the next, take the coyote out of the trap the day after.

I've not seen yet, where F-1 stops rust on all the chain links, under the pan, etc- not reliable in my opinion-
Coyotes- in direct test with speed dip, F-1- then coming back to same area with waxed traps- no comparison. Traps dipped in sept- were dug up under snow way too much- and yes, I caught some dumb coyotes in this test in Jan, very cold.. waxed traps- digging went bye bye

A while back I checked online for industrial type underwater paints. There are a number of different type available in various parts of the world including the US. Some have elastic properties and are described as being very tough. I don't really remember the prices but they weren't cheap. Some might possibly be ordered through at least 2 major brand paint stores in the US. I didn't look farther than that. Just a thought and a couple hours looking around.
