Anyone know what the average life span is of an s-hook or j-hook BAD? I'm using Amberg-style release ferrules now and am thinking of going to a different BAD system. Thanks in advance, Rainman

They last until you catch a deer! I have reused them in some cases but after the stretching of the material not the best to keep reusing after multiple deer releases.
Coyotes the quicker you can put them down the longer they will last. I inspect after each catch the high majority will keep on working, if you notice some opening after coyote catches and limited struggle then it is time to replace.
I like the s hook bads better than both he j hook or release feral systems.

How do you find your parts after a deer blows off those ferrals? Stinger type springs and cam locks I like the idea of all the parts still attached versus getting thrown around.

Nothing missing most times with s type. Ocassionally both ensds of BAD will be open but not often.. Ferrule keeps camlock, stinger on cable. Never used ferrule type. S type work great for me so have no reason to change.

An awful lot of s-hook BADs will last you a lifetime!!! Cuz they are so grotesquely over-powered.
I am using the lightest s-hook BAD with a Stinger, and occasionally a coyote will stretch them a little. So either recrimp or change them out, no biggie, a few cents on occasion. If you think that's going to break the bank then don't use them. Release ferrules aren't free either.
Basically s-hooks will outlast the lock they are attatched to.

This past season I lost a bobcat that wrapped the snare around a bush and straightened out both ends of a 225# rated s-hook.

It was an unbranded s-hook, bought from a supply dealer at a trappers meeting. I found it on the ground looking like a piece of spaghetti. I then re-worked all snares I had used those s-hooks on.

Well obviously that type of s-hook should have been on a pull chain for a lamp, or on a curtain, not on a snare.
Perhaps all the belly aching going on from this forum about too heavy BADs has been heard by many who sell BADs???
