I`m a complete dip man. tomorrow is the day as 54 degrees tonight and 60s tomorrow. I like a cool day so not so much wax runs off as on 80 degree days. be the first day it`s been just the right temperature to get the coat thickness I like. not too thick and not too thin.

I like doing mine while it's still hot enough for the wax to melt in the sun. Dip them and let the sun re-melt the wax everyday for a few days. Really soaks into the rust and gets rid of the drips. Helps get rid of some of the wax smell, as well. I just dipped mine yesterday. Boiled in sagebrush tea, the day before.

here it is so humid that if we wax too early in the summer, it all grows a coat of mold on the wax. disgusting. this a.m. we were 98% humidity. that`s 2 % from under water.

Yep. Been there Bob. Walked into my shed at the begining of July and some of the traps I didn't use were hanging on the wall. It looked like a light coat of dust but when I got up and looked a little closer it was mold.

Mine are all ready, earliest ever. I know about humidity. Someone mentioned placing charcole briquets in with the trap container. They suck up the moisture. Works great for me. I put them in with the waxed dirt too. Bet that "someone" lives in the East lol.

I have an electric roaster that Came from a Garage sale that I use for waxing. Temp control, good lid, and heats from the sides so that the wax melts better. I can have 6 traps in it at a time. The down side is that it takes alot of wax to filler up.

I waxed, let hang under a sheltered roof for a week or so, then scraped the dog end/trigger notch. Packed in 30 gal plastic totes in rows and sprinked a couple of handfulls of my dry dirt/peat mixture over the traps. Worked like a champ last year. When the day arrives just grabbed a dirt smelling trap ready to set. Obvioulsly this is a first time around deal. As the season goes by and you redye/wax again just air a couple of days and roll. Planted a lot of semi-dirty traps last year and still caught fur. Going to an antifreeze that didn't rust traps helped here a lot, but then again we don't get the deep, long period freezes a lot of you western boys deal with. Just my 2 cents...

Its been a long time since I've done much trapping. Back then the "best" trap wax was bees wax and paraffin I believe. Recently I noticed someone was using candle wax and another recomended just paraffin. Whats your favorite wax now a days? have a good one just

me, I'd stay away from the beeswax and use gulf parifin if I could find iit...most trap wax from trap supply houses works fine.
