I'm looking for a new way to build a dispatch pole. right now i have one made out of one inch pvc with the same length half inch plunger and is very awkward to hall around on the for wheeler. if you have any suggestions to help me out they would be much appreciated. I would really like one which can be screwed onto a painters stick but don't want to pay high dollar for one off of f&t!

Ive seen quite a few poles that are 3 foot sections that screw togather to make 6-9 whatever. or folding ones with a sleeve over the joint. mine are all solid 5 feet and that`s plenty if you don`t go in like bull. I do way over 100 skunks a year, maybe 150 or more and get it maybe once and always my fault for getting in a hurry on a dancer.

wow bob, your using a 5' pole and you say that they don't spray you but one out of 100 skunks. just measured my pole and its 9' of 1" and 10' of 1/2" pvc. I guess if I cut it down to size it would be more manageable for me on the 4wheeler. If there are any dealers on this site of the type that fit on paint sticks then please give me a haller.

Shoot, my syringe pole is only 4 feet long. I'm like Bob, watch out for the dancers and also skunks hate windy days. The rest of the time they are easy, just don't get in a hurry. For me it is easier to use a shorter pole than a long one. The shorter pole works well on the four wheeler and is easy to carry in the front of the pickup.

use acetone in wyoming for the first time last month and did about 50 and never a squirt. used to use pentobarb but switched as some states are getting sticky on it. one baby one grazed me barely, but again, got in a hurry and he was lively as all get out.

I made my pole out of a Chimney sweep rod. I saw the directions on a site, probably on Dobbins not sure who posted the pics.
Heres how. I used a band saw. Cut off one end of rod, Split the rod about 2 inches with saw, rotate 90 degrees and split again. Your rod is done. Cut thumb end of plunger off and insert into splits in chimney rod. Put plunger back into body. Your done.
I use Rubbing alcohol instead of acetone, the acetone will eat the rubber on the plunger, alcohol doesn't.
Also make sure the syringes and needles have the twist lock, I had a skunk that looked like a porcupine once when I had the wrong type. I did not get him put down until I was on my last needle.

Just let him smell it then put the needle to his chest area and slowly and steadly push it first the needle goes in then the fluid, SLOW and SMOOTH and CALM will do the trick.

ADD if you think that you need a longer pole, just buy 2 and screw them togather. I keep mine in a PVC tube with a screw on cap on one end and a plug in the other.

Take Bob and Phil's advice........I did and wish I'd done it sooner.....shorter is easier to control, even quicker. I'd done plenty of dancing around with an 8' + pole with the screw together ends........it sure gets to dancing....arm extended, rods flexing...moving all over the place...........PLUS you're pushing against the skunk.......I've used strictly acetone and not sure if the plunger gets stiff.....what ever, sometimes it's a BEAR to get the plunger "started" that is dispensing.......and you PUSH and PUSH and PUSH.......flex in the rods sometimes doesn't allow for as good an inline/pressure applied to the plunger.............all that goes away with a short internal dispensed rig........I made the change and it's been nothing but easier/quicker since.
