Would a piece of old garden hose work? Connect the two loose ends together with wire, then drop this "hula hoop" over the hut. It would now surround the hut completely. Now you can do your indent sets, and wire the traps to the hose. I would not trust this if coon were to be an issue, but it may work for this situation... Just an idea....

I use 2 liter bottles filled with some spray foam insulation, the fishingline I use is a heavy duty braided salt water line (i think)...it was given to me so I don't know what LB test it is. I use #1LS, #1.5 LS and some 1.5CS on a 12-18" of chain, with either decoy anchors or anchor weights i've made.
I've never had a jug not floating, chewed off or a rat farther than a few feet from the hut. the rats are always at the bottom in the muck (guess my rats are wimps?)....the set up doesn't take much to make and takes less room in my canoe then all those long stakes. Besides if I dump the canoe I don't lose my stuff either like you would with stakes.
Beav, I'll see if I have some pics....like everything in trapping some things work for some people and not for others.
Let me know how do you do, and what set up works for ya..

I would and have used say 4-6 foot 1 by 1 hardwood or soft wood stakes. I would shove them in say almost parallel to the water line so that your stake would be in the house foundation below the living chamber. Add about 3 foot of chain or cable to your rat traps and tie them off on the stakes. Put orange flagging on the stakes or dip the ends of the stakes in orange or yellow paint. If they stay attached the rats are there. If the stakes come loose they will float and they are marked.

Garman quit shooting the siting ducks in the decoys.........problem with sinking decoys solved. Or get out the sheet metal screws and fill the pellet holes, or get another shooting partner that won't shoot sitters, or swimming rats through the decs.
