gaspesian, we are not dictated to as which brands we must use.Magnums are not required--it is just the poor canadians that are told--what they must use. Seems your government is more concerned with your animals, than your trappers. Good Luck. Tom Olson

actually we are able to use bridger, duke, victor traps here...we just choose to used belisle ( me and my father) because we know if something gets snapped in our traps, it's going to be there when we check. i was actually thinking about trying some bridger next year just for a change, but i know i am still going to use my belisle an aweful lot too

Hear hear 3 doz Dukes versus 1 doz Belisles more traps more fur. Don't get me wrong they work but why spend the big bucks. Isn't true that you Canucks have to use the magnum jaw configuration. I don't think Duke offers that style of body grip

I thought they (Duke) had a 110 mag too?? I use BMI 160s. I could not believe the diffrence in traps. I used duke 160s for years but after using just a dozen of the BMIs I switched quick. Some of the things I didn't like about dukes were: The triggers needed replaced about every other year, the small wire frames bent out of shape and neede bent back, the springs lost power after a few years. Alot of my 160 dukes are great rat traps now. The only problem I have had with the BMIs was I dry fired one and the coils of the spring kinda fanned out. Only one to do it but don't know. I still have the trap and it still works great but just looks wrong. I'll see if I can't get a pic to show you.

Here's a good one. There is a long list of 330's certified for use in Canada. Duke 330 certified under water only. Duke 330 mag. not certified. There are a good variety of 220's certified for coons and some 160's . The real problem comes with fisher and marten Most everything must be magnums. You can find the complete list on the AIHTS site. By the way the duke 330 mag. is an awesome otter trap.

Bridger 160's get my vote.Like coonduke said the frame and the springs are a heavier gauge steel.Looks to be the same diameter as used in 220's.
I've heard the newer Duke 160's have been improved.Had some about 10 years ago that were junk compared to the Bridgers.

Anyone use SC size 160's? My Belisle are good traps, but have 4 with trigger issues, won't stay set, not real impressed with brand new traps. Called Belisle today, for the second time they are to send new ones, time will tell.

i don't know about the SC... but we have had the same exact thing happen with our 160's with triggers that won't stay set. it took me a lot of filing to get them right.. but did eventually.. but at a cost of a lot of swearing and a really sore knuckle. i haven't heard naything about it happening on the other size belisle's though...just teh 160's

I think the problem Is the angle of the dog from the fixed jaw to the power jaw. The dog jaw Is higher then then the power jaw. I don't know what you can do about It other then having a longer dog with a slight bend in it to let It lay flatter and engage the trigger better.

Sleepy creek 160 are all we use for groundhog control, they hold up well.
