Hi Gang, Never tried this set before, going to tomorrow afternoon. I have a bail of straw at the moment. CAn you tell me if hay would be better? Maybe more of a natural smell? I have no problem buying more, just didn't know what to use. Also, I have read/seen the other posts on this subject. My thing is this--I have mega fox tracks and coyote tracks in the area. I "Believe" someone has really educated these guys. They will not commit to my sets. Walk up to it, within about 10 feet or son, and then turn the other way. So, I'm looking at combining the straw bail over the current set(s). Thanks so much, Chris Also, I have "very" little just mice left. Should I simply go with two red fox gland lures of different makes, or just use that along w/urine on the bail? How about bobcat gland lure and bobcat urine? Thanks a bunch!

B2T, where are you from?
Many like 2 traps at this set........gives you better odds.
One flake from either, a straw or hay bale is plenty IMHO......a couple flakes at the very most.........a whole bale is unnecessary and a waste.
Canines are attracted to all you mention........fox gland, bait, bobcat gland lure and P.
What are your ground conditions? Are these new sets, remakes......give us some more info and we might be able to help ya better on why the critters aren't committing. Good luck and don't get discouraged.

i use nacho cheese doritos with this set- crush them and make a trial of crumbs 10 ft out each side of the set and sprinkle some through the hay in the middle- when they circle the set they pick up piece by piece till they aare hunting the hay

OK. Now I have to find a place remote enough to try it that no one will see as I don't want to have to try to explain to anyone what I'm doing. I'm not sure if I've got it in me to do such a thing to a bag of Doritos. They're my favorite!

You will be amazed how well the set blends in.

I knew a farmer that seriously, wired a big double spring to a manure spreader, and caught a coyote.
I can catch one coyote on anything- but think I'll stick with lures and canines baits.

the lure makers hate me- but then again i cant eat the lure- and in late winter and snow conditions i will kick anybody,s butt with this set - have as of the time of this writing 8 fox doubles on 1 stake and 1 fox coon double on 1 stake - there are also at least 10 others that have fox doubles on this set with 1 stake- also know of 1 coyote man that doubled on drags with this set and several that have wrote to me about bobcat catches with this set-plus a pile of fox and coyote singles - i personaly have several thousand late winter fox to my credit because of it - just try it

if your not sure about location put 1 drop of lure in the middle - this will help with lure sales- but the smell of the fresh hay will draw them for several hundered yards- as in winter it smells like you just cut your lawn - like a farmers field it creates a hunting response in canines- i showed a set 2 years ago that i have yet to have a canine miss at a set with -but its not this 1

a1- Im not talking aobut the hay set, my comment was diercted to using snack crackers as bait.
and I realy doubt, you'd kick my butt with hay sets- or dirtholes or flat sets or indeed, any set.
the secret of them is the 2 traps, not the set
for every double, you got 1 in both traps. Not really my style. And yes a1- I remember you from a while back- be very careful- this isn't the slam forums you are used to.

I like to use 2 traps most times.......
There are certain trails that I'll put only one in because I just can't get the second one in.
I'd love to catch a double on yotes in one though.
That would make for an interesting circle.
I also use lure on the bail, and sometimes a spritz of urine.
Never used Doritos. But have put marshmellows on the trail.
This set really shines in snow.

Ok Gang, I'm back! Lost my pc. Anyways,............. We have about one foot of snow. Highs in the mid 20's, last night it was 9 F. I'm looking at driving about an hour from here to a sporting goods place, to get some liquid mice. I've never used it. Is it true that ground mice don't have the "kick" that liquid does? Thanks again, Chris

I'd like to know how you catch 2 fox in 2 traps tied to the same stake.
Your fox don't move around when caught?
Don't the fox fight? Aren't they a tangled mess?
Are the Doritos stored in a blue bucket?

I don't know about Doritos but cracklings work like magic In the south. I used the whole bale for eye appeal but made the set so the fox or coyote couldn't reach the bale after it was caught. Hay or straw really binds up chain swivels.
