Borax is the answer not oil. I never heard it but in my opinion it would be bad move, first your fur will smell like a clean baby, not a smell I would think would be good to the buyers. Secondly, it could be a turn off for some oils ph levels are bad for fur at the tannery, also needing a good cleaning before tanning. I am no expert on this but thats what I would think. If you flesh and clean your furs well, once dry rub with borax and it cleans, deodorizes and fluffs the fur. Furs cleaned with borax look quite a bit better. I blow mine out after borax and use light air pressure from a compressor. Comb out nice and walla, great looking fur. Oil may make the fur look greasy, which is also a turn off from buyers.

If you put just a drop or two on your hands, rub together, and pet your coyotes pelts a little it will make the tips of the guard hair look real good.

baby oil then low heat tumbling does wonders, absolutely wonders for canines. Been doing it for years, perhaps might have "invented" it- in any case, it makes a day and night difference in the fur.

I havent tried baby oil on fur yet.
The only babes I've put baby oil on told me they were legal although they do look younger if you wet their hair and slick it back.

There ought to be an archive on using baby oil on fur. Basically Steve said it all.

I've been curious about this baby oil thing since I first read about it here. If I get the chance I'll try it on a cat this season.

and use less as you go- it accumulates in the dryer.
Use the wringer washer today for first time- WE LIKE IT A LOT!
very visable difference after washing than before.... and no muss, no fuss using the wringer

How long in the wringer washer? Plain dish soap? Downy rinse?

we haven't been using any soap- figured too hard to rinse out- so just water with a cup of bleach, then into rinse of downy. About 4-5 minutes in washer.

Steve - are you putting the washed furs through the ringer also? I have used my wringer washer to wash pelts but never could get them to feed through the wringer very well, especially the head. And yes I do skin them first.LOL. Plus it seems to leave the flesh dirty looking. Not sure if that makes any difference when selling or not but I agree the fur deffinately looks a lot better when washed.
