get a job riding the corrals at the feedlot. the ranchers that bring 6-700 heifers in swear they aren`t bred. if they are early they don`t show. when fat with corn it can fool even an expert. they try to abort them , and that is when many die. just too small for a fetus to come outy. like 10 year old girls breeding on the their first menstrual period. pelvis just not big enough to pass a baby. a lot of feedlots give abortion shots to everyonefrom the get go, knowing the ranchers lie. jeff can tell you about pg heifers in the feedlots.

no, not 6-700- but Joe had about 500 heifers that were brought in from the range (heifers calf in the pens, older on the range for him). Had one die because of a breech-
Im no cattleman, but like I said- you could sure tell which ones were gong to calf that night.
But- I'll concede that they knew these cattle were bred.
also didn't know that you could predict into the 90% range and better, the sex of the calf bred by AI.

Bob is right. We havent fed that many pens of heifers in a while but when we do atleast 6 or7 out of a pen of say 85 will sluff off a calf from the shots given at processing.
These come in about 500 to 600 lbs and the only way your going to tell if they are pregnant is to put your arm up their ass.
Too much work for feeder heifers and like i said usually the shots given at processing will abort the calf. Some will still have them some of the calves make it and some don't. The bigger yards that have alot of hiefers they are feeding out usually the cowboys take turns getting the calves that are born.
