When using a motor in shallow water you have to watch the gas when you tip the motor to get the prop out. I had a little excitement one time because of a gas leak. I guess that gas leaked out when I tipped the motor so we could get over a shallow spot. When I pulled the starter cord a nice little fire started inches from me.
To stop it I tightened the gas cap/air valve real quick. I also started undoing the motor and considered dropping it into the river. I splashed water on it first and the fire went out.
I got a little burned and had a girlie-looking right leg (all the hair singed off) for a while. The motor re-started with the first crank.

I won't be getting out of the canoe much as the water is deeper than wadeable and the bottom is very soft.
I saw a goldenhawk canoe at the MTA rondy they are about 750 w/o sales tax a touch steep for me.
