Split rings hands down. Easiers to use, no tools reguired, no threads to clean mud out of, I sold all of my quik links and went with split rings last year, I love em.

I planned on using the split rings for the exact reason DJ mentioned. I bet they both work good, but to much else to worry about with the Quick Links.

My friend lost a couple of yotes with the large cattle split rings. Sold all mine a month and half ago ;D Anyway, I was not using them.
Quick link are the way to go for me.

I suppose when talking about quick links, stainless is the only way to go.

I waxed them so they can last.

Edge a coin will work, even a knife blade, if you are still allowed to carry sharp objects. Heck I don't know why you wouldn't....Take away the knife and Edge will find a way to impale himself on something ;D

Lynx, I have seen the destroyed rings and it was not a joke believe me. Before it happens to me, sold them! For fox, they are ok. Cannot trust them anymore for coyote trapping. Also, this guy was using short chain Think the yotes chewed them bad and pulled. Do a little test..... hang one on a piece of chain and put another piece of chain and pull hard.... they can be "crushed" like a beer can in a minute only by pulling hard enough. Stef

Stef...could be he had the cheep one's...I've seen several different qualities of split rings...some are REAL cheezy and seem to open up easily...the one's I use...you dont put em on by hand...I use a pair of fencing pliers to get em started and twist them on. I've heard of people having some problems..I'll bet they're getting cheeper rings.. later lynx

I've been using the the split rings that Paul Dobbins sells for a few years now. No tools needed, just open them with the trap dog. I am afraid to use quick links; I always figured canines would figure them out and screw them open....... ;D
I'm going back to rivets. A trap that is attached to a cable stake with a rivet is impossible to steal without a tool of some kind.

most trappers to include myself always carry atleast one set of pliers. I may drag or stake. every trap has a 880 lb screw link so I have the versitility and strength.

What about us dogless fanatics ;D Special tool?? How about bolt cutters ;D LOL DJ, just invest in one of those cheap multi-tools. Put it on your belt and you hardly know it's there. Most of them have a flathead screwdriver in them.
