Wood stakes are the way to go If you have to anchor the deep ends of your slide wire. Wood just swells up and Is very hard to pull, In fact you will have problems pulling them. And a beaver can't get a straight upward pull like you can. If you can wade out and set a pogo you can foot stomp In a wood stake or push In a lath or a peeled stick. If your trapping those black water swamps just hang some snares along side some of those trees out In the water, dab on some castor on the tree and the beaver will swim around the tree and right Into the snare. You can also nail a coni clip to the side of the tree and do the same thing with a body grip. It works. Beaver are just plain dumb don't make It any harder then It Is.

We did the snare on the tree thing and it worked. That 330 on the clip sounds neat...never heard of that before.
At a good majority of our locations, we were working behind a g-man. Even saw some dead beaver floating around. I assume that may be some of the reason the exposed 330s weren't working like we thought they should have.
Keep these great responses coming. Definitely a lot of different methods to get the same result.
