Squirrels actually tread heavier than mink in my view. But it could be any combination of different things happening. You are using coils right? 1.75s or 1.5s? If you were using longsprings you could make bigger pans and cut down on them misses.Place a guide stick with lure beside trap, heck get creative until it clicks.

I've picked up 5 squirrels in pocket sets this year so far. I walked up to one one day and he was laying there belly up. First thing i noticed was the pads on his feet. got to looking and their pads are pretty much like a mink. They will leave the same imprint. There is a slight difference. Now they i noticed that i look a little bit closer when looking for tracks. but at quick glance, ya can be fooled. I have been running conibears in rat holes. Baited and unbated pockets, and blind sets. All the sets i'm catching the mink in are the blind sets. I've had 12 check days so far this season counting this morning. I have caught mink everyday but 2. I picked up a nice big buck mink this morning in a blind set. I'm just trying to say that ya might need to try something different. If ya have so much sign you have to be able to see where they are running under roots and bank edges. Set them spots.
