Marky, How long does it take you to switch the pan set up?
I don't know Ron Hansen Jr did them, I found where to get those pans today. I take a few pics when I get Biker Billy to work a few up. I like the pinch pan set up. Do you need it I doubt it.

Well I think they look cool, even though you don't need "cool" traps they are one of a kind.

The 1.5 coils you have will work great on mink. I use 1.5 Duke coils, 1.5 Victor coils, and 1.5 Victor LS's. Chains are what came on the traps or about a foot with a swivel on the end if the chain was shot when I got the trap. I like good springs and replace them when I notice a loss of strength. I rig most traps on drowning cables so I can go to a three day check when work takes me out of town for a meeting (I like coon down and out). I use quick links to attach the trap chain to the L lock on my cable.

PS - re-read your post. The chains on my coils are off the side of the traps as they came and I don't change anything on my 1.5 LS's.

I was taught old school on mink and only run 1.5 ls for all my mink trapping.

A 1 1/2 longspring (I prefer the old style b&l) is a great mink trap but I never had any luck with them in non drowning situations for coon.

for sure 1.5 ls is old school on mink- it was only mink trap my dad used- but back then, we never gave catching coon a thought, there were so few.
I use a lot of them myself.

What I have done with my mink trapping is make sure that coon can't get on the bank for any reason. And keep him is about a foot of water. So far no damage but there will always be a chance I guess and no coon pull out I am aware of either. Fast cold water here in MI during that time of year and coon can't take the cold being wet very well.

DAve -you do what most coon trappers do- unfortunately, according to the bmp committee, what you are doing is not considered humane to the coon.

TNT Trapping supply use to sell the pans.My friend Les got the pans for Ron.He was the first one to get them made and showed them to Ron.A guy on Minn. punched them out for Les.He lived next to Bud Hall and caught 300 to 400 mink a year when running hard.
