Try Mink, muskrat, and raccoon trapping on streams by Charles L. Dobbins. Its a good one.

While some nit pick minor points- I am of the opinion that the Mink Trappers Guide by Faler falls into the same catagory with mink as O'Gormans Hoofbeats does with coyotes.
THE definitive work...

If you are looking for one book then I agree on Rich Faler's Mink Trappers Guide. A study book that covers it all. JL

I liked the part about the Mr. Twisters and the wishbone triggers.

yes, he does mention it on one page..as another class of sight attractor....so about .002% of the book was on this subject.
For a beginner or intermediate mink trapper- no other book that I have read- covers mink more throughly in all aspects- from habitat, from habits, to sets, management, etc.
Its a comprehensive 195 page mink manual-
covers far more and contains more truths and less BS than any other Mink book out there.
If yo ubuy ONE mink book...buy this one.

marty, just a quick tip here: Do not box yourself in by looking at your area as "an untapped" population. Also, do not worry about overtrapping that area, with the exception of trapping them at the tail end of the season, as they are getting "springy" (fur quality deterioating) at that time.
If the environment and habitat is there, the mink will be there year in and year out.
Also, watch for even more activity in that area right after your first good snow.

I don`t know where you are from, but if the northern iowa /southern mn. area , I would think gerald scmidts book and video would be most helpful. Gerald did over 700 mink one fall right in that area.

Bob- Geralds video is excellent- but it concentrates more on setting techniques- with much emphasis on pockets.
Gerald lives in the "Maryland" of mink area.... that year, in 7 weeks of trapping he and another trapper working the same geographical area took over1500 mink! (not partners, but both in the area).
In fact, Geralds video is the only mink video I own.
Richs book puts lots of time into line management, habits, theroies....

I imagine 1,500 exceeds several states total takes, and I don`t mean in the desert either!

Hi my name is Marty and I'm a trapaholic. I don't go to Trappers Anonymous because T. A. is for people who want to get better.
Thanks for all the great suggestions guys, just what I was looking for.
i never envisioned myself as a water trapper, but I found all these mink tracks while looking for raccoon sign, so I better learn how catch them. Hell I better learn how to catch everything.

Best video: Thorpe's( if you're in the east)
Best book is tougher-Mink Mania is good,(east)
Shmitt's if you've got the terrain for pocket sets.
Ken smythe's bottom edge sets book is worth buying.
But the best book is a good tracking snow.

Has anyone ever read Jim Spencers mink trapping book? I've always enjoyed his articles in magazines, and have been considering purchasing his book. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch, Adam

Spencer's book is excellent, as is Faler's, in fact, there are many good mink trapping method books on the market, every book mentioned on this thread is good.
