Boars are moving hot and heavy looking for love right now in my area.Badly rubbed, lots of bites.I think that even before breeding, coons around here tend to move well every three to four days even in very inclement weather. It sometimes seems as if they have a community schedule that dictates what nights they run-and it is not always on those "typical" good nights. Only a good thunder and lightning storm puts them down. That first photo is a very nice prime coon.I wish we had them that size down here!

I'm impressed that you had traps working in those temperatures. Nice going!

Not traps Jason- snares.
I know coon move in cold weather- I trap coon all winter every year- but I've never had them out and about when it's this cold. I mean come on- 20 some below and I get a coon?
yellowish, but only 1 rubbed out of 6 over past 4 days- and that might have been a snare rub or at least worsened by the snare.

Snares...duh. I should have figured that one out.
Anyway, pat yourself on the back for trapping through weather like that.

I've been catching more coons this winter at temps way below normal also. It's starting to warm up here now. Alot of my big boars lately have been rubbed alittle but alot of them were rubbed in November so what do you do. I'm guessing all those live coons were in surelocks LOL.

I was treestand bowhunting whitetails in the UP once during minus 13-15 weather;heard lots of crunching only to see a big boar waddle by.I skewered him but couldnt help but wonder what he was doing out in those temps.

Cold is relative to the area you are in.
Up here the thing that hampers them the most is deep snow.
I have seen them move in most any weather(albeit not very far) that is fit for me to be out in.

cold is indeed relative- and I agree coon travel in cold AND snow- in fact, have made it my business to pattern heir movements around here.
But even here- back in the day, you did have some sort of hibernation period when you didn't see a coon or a track.
25 below could safely be said to have no coon moving...
This past almost decade of above normal temps might be altering patterns.

Have not seen a coon track in weeks. There is a small run that connects two denning areas that neither get trapped. I been watching, nothing, YET. I think temp. differential may matter, today it's getting up in the teens and it feels nice compared to this morning and lately. This fall and early winter were mild here, then this cold snap. What I mean by temp diff is one extreme to the next causing movement or non. Whatever it is, it is. lol
When do the coon rut? I thought soon, or now.
