Tried wax paper again this past year because it is easier and cheaper. I went back to the steel screens after I noticed a few big paw prints right next to the pan with the wax paper. My catch ratios went up as well......

I'm wondering if I went to a screen place (window-store) whatever, if they could shear up some to size for me rather quickly...Anyone ever try it?

Soooo........ Steel screen which RUSTS BTW, Unless you buy the black coated screen gives me a Bigger kill area? Let me ask you this, How much more of a KILL AREA do you need when utilizing a #3? I can't see spending the xtra money to have steel screen shipped to me from Montana when black coated Aluminum screen which needs no trap treatment, None, Zip zero.........Cut em' and forget em! I cut my INFERIOR aluminum screen for my #3's 5 3/4 by 7, I also do not cut a "V" or punch the screen through the trigger. I cut 1 slit on the dog side. When the trap is set the screen is pinned to the trap by the jaws and the slit allows no movement from side to side like the INFERIOR "V" cut allows....... Their is NO bubble and while not nearly as stiff as steel its a bunch cheaper, Supple enough to stuff UNDER the pan if need arises and I ain't gotta pay shipping. When I start seeing snapped traps I may change but it ain't happened yet. And as Brian says With an 1" of dirt over the trap who cares. !

don't know if the steel screen I get from Gerald is coated, but didn't have any rust in any way on them last year. Also, I picked up the "kinda used" ones "Just in case" and they didn't rust sitting in a bucket all winter. When you think of it- steel screen doesn't normally rust until very old in doors, windows- so must somehow be coated. In any case, I like the heavier material and whatever bend, bow it might have is so minimal...why, its like worrying aobut bent dogs...
