What's your favorite all around canine trap(for fox and coyote) and why? Do you modify them in any way? Thanks, Adam

Adam- I use mostly 1.75- but they have disadvantages that are well known- mainly the smaller size and the need for a little more precise guiding. In my opioin- Duke makes as tough and well made 1.75 as anyone- look no further if 1.75 is what you want.
I do like the #2 Bridger- the ones I have are fully modiifed and they fo a good job.
I'm impressed with and am going to use some of the new Montana traps-
The above are all for coyotes- on fox, I would think a 1.5 coil in various modifications would be the first choice.

#2 Montgomery Dogless I may be changing that if Montana would get on the ball and make a number 2. The #3 looks every bit as good if not better than the original Montgomery

John Graham said on Dobbin's site:
" We will probably build a #4 size trap in the future, and that will be a dog-less design also.we know there is a need for the 6 1/2" jawspread, and will proceed eventually.
As for making a smaller version of this trap(dogless design in say a #2), NO, we don't intend on making one. I have owned every size of the old Montgomeries, and the #2 just wasn't the trap the #3 and #4 are. So, I see know need in pursuing that. We will be coming out with a 1 1/2 Round Jaw fairly soon."

Steve, you gotta talk to him, the #3 is too big for fox, we need a number 2 to use where there is a mix of populations, it isn't a perfect fox or coyote size, but fits nicely where you may get either.

DJ: I know that popular opinion would have the #1.75 and #2 as the trap of choice but you would be surprised at how well the #3 would work for you, especially since you have a mix of fox and yotes...

Gonna give the Bridger 3s a good run this year , just feel weird setting them after all those years of those dinky little fox traps. Last year tryed the 2s and a few 3s. But now I have about 50/50. And I can see the benefits of kill area cutting down misses.

DJ - The #3 Montana is about the same size I believe as a #2 Bridger. Steve correct me if I'm wrong. They will treat fox OK. Terry

Even though I don't have a lot of them..I like the Northwoods 1.75 square jaws for fox. If I had more yotes I would probably pick the Bridger #2.

Yes Terry, the jaws won't grab fox foot higher than a #2 but the base plate "the frame" is longer than a #2.
Like a small #3 ;D

Terry, I have a good number of #2 Monties, so I guess I don't have much choice if I want new. I was going to use the number 3 for ice/snow conditions, but I trust your opinion as well, and will give them a try early season as well.
MM, maybe the number #2 Bridgers are good as well, but I am committed to a couple dozen new Montanas, and I do have my #2 Montgomery's.
